This bird isn't always sleeping. Several people have observed it on the pond on the east side of the road and gotten good photos. Even though the duck has been staying in these two small seasonal ponds, last night a group of us were discussing how long it would be around and what would happen to this duck that showed up in northern Wisconsin well north of its normal range. With perfect timing, a new video taken by an ornithology class viewing a vagrant White-faced Ibis recently in Massachusetts was posted on Youtube. The class happened to be in the area when this ibis was first discovered. Word of its presence was just beginning to spread through the MA birding community at the time this video was taken. As a videographer I am usually frustrated when people are talking in the background while I am taking video, but in this case I think the captured audio actually helps document this situation well.
