Agreed for the most part. However, I would not rank IT in the "requiring
relatively short stints of training". It is a constant change and updating
of skills.

Because unfortunately wages are primarily determined by productivity (real
or perceived) and not according to when the work takes place (unless there
is a labor shortage of people willing/capable to do that job).  Most of the
jobs mentioned, no matter how important they are, required relatively short
stints of training (compared to occupations such as doctors, lawyers, etc.).
