No kidding. My job doesn't pay that great. They gave me a cell phone,
but it's a crappy old Nextel i1000 (soon to be replaced, I hope), and I
use more extensive features not available on it, so I still have my cell
phone.
Because of my job description, the district will not pay for my
internet access from home; it's expected.
I'm also on call 24/7/36X (all the time). Luckily, they WILL pay me
mileage from wherever I am, when called, to the office.
I swear that we have more problems with the HVAC in our datacenter than
with all of our IT problems combined. In the entire time I've worked
here, I've only had to work after hours one time, that was not related
to an HVAC failure or other heat / operating boundary condition.
