As far as the "to keep or not to keep: ads on Kindle" discussion, it just needs
to be realized that, logical or not, it just bugs some of us that they are
there even if they are not a problem and we want to get rid of them, which is
what I did. I don't mean it bugs me because i'm upset at Amazon or anything
like that; somehow just the knowledge of them being there would bother me.
Probably sort of like a sighted person not being able to put up with the paint
scheme of a room in the house even though there isn't anything terribly wrong
with it. If you approach this from a logical, see-how-they-aren't-a-problem
perspective, all the arguments presented are absolutely correct. But for some
of us, it isn't really primarily logical; just knowing they are there is
somehow irritating and no logic can reach that. I am willing to bet that there
is hardly anybody on this list that doesn't have at least one gripe or bug or
pet peeve about something that logically isn't a problem but that is crying out
to be changed in the person's mind. So okay! Logically I could peacefully
coexist with the ads but on another level they bother me and I had the money to
get rid of them so I did. End of story! If they don't bother you and you are
fine with them, leave them there! If they bother you despite everybody's great
logic as to why you shouldn't mind them, if you can afford it there's no shame
in paying to get them taken off.

Actually I agree that the ads/offers are a pain. But most people know when
they buy a Kindle that is going to show offers that this is why the tablet
is less expensive. As I previously posted you can go into your Amazon
account either on or off of the device, go to content and devices, select
your device and unsubscribe from the ads. You will have to pay but I think
the cost is basically the same or similar to the amount you originally saved
by buying for a lower price. The only difference between what you bought and
one without adds is the presence of adds. So yes, you can get rid of them if
you are willing to pay to get rid of them. It really isn't blackmail but if
you bought a kindle without realizing that you were getting the lower price
only because you chose to allow offers, I can see how that might feel like
blackmail. But the website does state that you are getting this for a lower
price by allowing offers and there is a way to go ahead and get rid of them
by basically pay the difference. You apparently did not realize that you
were making a choice for the lower price with the allowing of ads. It really
was your misunderstanding rather than Amazon's attempt to blackmail you. I
bought my fire 8 HD from Laz and since that one didn't say it was without
offers I assumed that if I wanted to not have offers I would need to pay to
unsubscribe once I got the Kindle so this did not bother me at all. A lot of
people are happy to just ignore them but I preferred to pay and get rid of
them.
