Um hmmm. At least I know that all the things I tried actually *don't* work.

Shoshana, doubting seriously that anyone at Amazon either knows or cares
about this issue, frankly.

Shoshana, I uninstalled the program, deleted all Kindle folders under
C:\Users\My_username\Appdata\Local\Amazon, downloaded the software, and
re-installed it. It still will not open. I'll call Amazon Kindle
Support in a minute, but it's too late to do lots of troubleshooting.
If I can't get a quick fix, I'll try in the morning. Perhaps by then,
Amazon will have a handle on what is wrong. This problem is perplexing
and vexing to say the least.
