The Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk was somewhat abbreviated in terms
of duration (90 minutes) and participants (4) due to the weather. With
temperatures in the teens coupled with moderate winds that created the effect
of temps in the single digits, this morning's walk was difficult, and only
produced 24 species. (Too bad we can't get that wind chill factor in August
when we need it.) Highlights this morning included the pair of Red-shouldered
Hawks we have been seeing for several months now, some Yellow-rumped Warblers,
and, a non-birding observation, a very robust looking red fox crouched down on
the ice near the grass stands at the northern edge of the open water area.
