Fourteen birders joined the Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk today and
logged 44 species. The warm, humid air carried the fragrances of late summer
in the wetlands, and the effects of early morning thunder storms partially
filled the central pond area. Today's highlights were three immature Little
Blue Herons, a Snowy Egret, and the daily increasing population of migrating
shorebirds. On the other hand, there was a noticeable scarcity of
Woodpeckers, American Robins, and Red-winged Blackbirds.

The Monday Morning birdwalk has been a weekly event at Huntley Meadows since
1985. It takes place every week, rain or shine, at 7 AM, is free of charge,
requires no reservation, and is open to all. Birders meet in the parking lot
at the Park's entrance at 3701 Lockheed Blvd, Alexandria, VA. For questions
