I saw an item in the Washington Post on Sunday that really caught at my
heart. As some of you may know the Whooping Crane project was able to
get 18 chicks from Wisconsin to FL this year, via artificial migration
with Ultra Light planes. =20
Unfortunately the storms that ripped across FL this past week killed 17
of the 18 cranes. A tragedy that I can't quite find the words for - I
know they are birds and not people but it is still upsetting. So much
work...and so much hope for the future...gone...very hard to fully
absorb.
The group that works with the cranes is called Operation Migration.
They have posted some notes about the cranes and have also opened up a
Memorial Fund for the Class of 2006.

Hopefully, good things will come from this loss and we will still be
able to enjoy Whoopers in FL in the future.
