cloudy and cool

Met Jan Shaw at Radnor this morning hoping for a nice wave of migrants
after the cold front. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and we struggled
to find mixed flocks of birds other than the local residents. We did
have 2 nice flocks, one at Long Bridge and the other at the dam and
Ranger's house on our return to that area about 9:45 am. Numerous
CHIMNEY SWIFTs swirled through the air and there were at least 20 WOOD
DUCKs congregating at various places. Migrant highlights included
9 species of warblers of which we particularly enjoyed 2 BLUE-WINGED
WARBLERs, 1 male GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER and 1 female WILSON'S WARBLER.
A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was also a nice find. SWAINSON'S THRUSHes
continue to increase in numbers. A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO called softly
before flying across the dam.

Birds of interest included:
Yellow-billed Cuckoo 1
House Wren 1
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 1
Swainson's Thrush 6+
Brown Thrasher 1
White-eyed Vireo 1
Philadelphia Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Blue-winged Warbler 2
Golden-winged Warbler 1
Tennessee Warbler 2
Northern Parula 1
Magnolia Warbler 8
Black-and-white Warbler 2
American Redstart 3 (2 immature males and 1 female)
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
