- We have 15% GST.
- Winter means -40oC.
- GPRS unlimited costs you US$ 90.00 per month.
- More than 1/2 of the country is a fridge.
- We are not close to Australia.
- Everything you can imagine costs 25 to 40% more if you buy it in a
place 2 hours drive from here (means, just across the border) with no
reasonable explanation.
- We need to deal with 2 official, completely different, languages.
- People with US$ 1 Million to invest in the country, after applying for
a Visa at Immigration usually wait 14-18 months; - Refugees that will
live off the welfare system for years can apply and get a Visa in 3-6
months.

I wish I could move to NZ.

$1750 NZD =3D3D 630 pounds. In the US, that printer is under $600. New =
=3D
Zealand
is an expensive place to buy anything. For reasons, I suppose you can =
=3D
start
with the 12 1/2 percent tax (GST) on any goods and services that are =3D
sold
(translation: everything). $200 of that price is GST. If you want to =3D
really
cringe, I pay 50 cents per minute to talk on a cell phone (to anywhere =
=3D
in
the country) or on a land line to anywhere other than 'local'. I could =
=3D
go on
and on. The cost of living here will eventually drive me back to the =3D
U.S.
The odd part is that most kiwis don't seem to know that it's expensive =
=3D
here.
