There are a few of these scripts out there... Check Doug Brown's old
site (dabcc.com and click on the old site link) for a version of the
smart script.  This type of script is great for 24/7 environments.  Yet
you still need to set idle/disconnect values for this to work.

I'm not sure what everyone else opinion is, but we have just gone live,
and I am in the process of creating a script that will do the following.

ROLLING SCHEDULE

At 10am (server 1 stops any NEW USERS connecting but allows those who
are already connected to continue until such times as they disconnect OR
their session is timed out.) Note a batch file will continuelly run
query user for example.

Once its detected their is no one else on the server it performs a
reboot

After reboot it then re-enables logins

It then sends a command to SERVER 2 to do the same thing.....

Server2 tells Server3, server 3 tells server4 and so on.

This is my idea and I've not tested it YET !
