Ed,

Let's get it right from a tech's view.
The newer techs are having a hard time getting their jargon straight, making
it at times hard to know what circuit they are talking about horizontal or
vertical? There is a proper term for each in describing the symptom.
A horizontal line results from the loss of vertical sweep with horizontal
sweep working (hence vertical problem).
A vertical line results from the loss of horizontal sweep with vertical
sweep working (hence horizontal problem).
Therefore a vertical line cannot be used to describe the result of a
vertical problem, this is very non-tech.
I hope this clarifies and reduces some of the misconceptions.
