Volume in drive C is MS Ramdrive means the hard drive was not recognized
when it booted, Win98 startup disk sets up a virtual drive in ram and
selects the next unused drive letter, best wait for your "PC friend" at this
point Phil.

failure]

I reattached the old HDD, booted up with my W98SE startup disk.I also
put the 98 CD in the CDROM drive. Booted up OK, and prompted me to put
in the CD if I wanted. I did.It said something about all diagnostic
software was loaded...etc. I changed dir from "A" to "C", then typed DIR
and got "volume in drive C is MS ramdrive"
Below it was all the files in "C".
Do I now do a total format?
(I will need my PC tech friend's help there, Done it once with help).
Does it sound like the HDD is salvagable?
