I just repaired a Panasonic 32" model CT-3269SCW which required a HOT.
Because these posts about HOT subbing were currntly on the list, I
decided to experiment a bit. The original HOT was a 2SD2539 which is
rated 5A, 1500V with a damper internal. I first tried a generic 2SD1880
(8A?) and after an hour running the set, the temperature on the heatsink
directly above the HOT was 49 deg. C. The I tried a generic 2SD1879
(6A). After an hour, the temp. was 53 deg. C. Then I tried an OEM
Panasonic 2SC5339 which is the new generation replacement for the
original 2SD2539 in the set. The temp. after an hour was 44 deg. C. Then
I installed an extra heatsink at the top of the HOT's tin plate
heatsink. This extra heatsink was just a folded thick aluminum plate
about 6 sq. inches altogether. The temp then went down to about 41 deg.
C. I left the heatsink in and returned set to the customer.
