[TCUG] Re: Pedestrian Crossing Bleepers

The problem with tactile indicators is that they aren't the device of choice
for blind users and others. Giving them a lower grade of service for part
of the day is arguably discriminatory.

Having the volume change with background noise as with Bleep& Sweep would be
far better, though there are problem sites, where the topography focuses the
sound on some poor resident's bedroom. (There is one like that in Coventry
on the Walsgrave Rd.)

The double fitting also adds to costs, with little overall benefit.

Hi John

AS you know we do have some older crossings with audible signal switched off
overnight, but all more recent crossing are now fitted with Tactile Cones
that operate at all times. We intend as funds are available to retrofit to
all sites in time.
