Darren, this is not always the case, depending on what phone you opt for and what contract, the cost, yes, is always less if you go SIM only, i.e. without a phone, but its not always a huge difference. if you barter a little over the inclusive minutes or texts etc that can make the difference. but on low end monthly tariffs like £20 or so a month, the phoneless contract is not always that good a deal. my advice, check the price of both with the phone of your choice, and without it, then as the add says, go compare the market, how much can you get that phone unlocked and unbranded for separately. now add the cost of the phone to the SIM only monthly tariff price multiplied by the duration of the contract, and you'll see which route is better value. Especially with vodafone because all they'll do is put you on a really high tarriff for up to 2 years so you think you're getting a good deal but in reality the 2 year contract is ripping you off. You're better off buying the phone sim free and paying more for it because then you can get a sim only deal which will be probably half as cheap as the alternative and better value for your money. -----Original Message----- From: talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of alexander shannon Sent: 11 July 2011 13:52 To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Thinking about a new phone but would like some advice in view of problems I've heard of regarding the E5 firmware and Talks. Hi Neil, Thank you for your comprehensive message. I think I'll aim to get the E5, but I'll also look at the E7 when I'm at Sight Village, encase Vodafone don't have the E5 available on contract, as the ability to use Zooms would be helpful, but I do want to be able to have a wider choice of phones to choose from.
