Or any other reader for that matter.

I just asked about other readers because even though John is whittling primarily a jaws solution,
I think as long as any other reader can take advantage of the basic access already there, it should be part of the picture,
and once in a while it'll read something another reader won't.

Not to take focus off the main road, but my experience hasz been supprise, supprise,
since I've complained about window-eyes being so bad about things lately especially on the web, it's been the most consistant
at always lighting up the basic track navigation and allowing me to see things in platinum, sometimes when I open up
jaws, I won't see anything, no arrow nav to fiels and such, but I can alt tab out of the program and wait a while, go read a mail, and then come back and it'll be there.

Go figure.

But some of the things are working right in the shift control o menu
and the insert sends thing is working right,
Anyway, saw another familiar face here and it's Roy, and he's also another multiple reader user.

That might give us some perspective on things, because for what ever odd reason, both jaws and nvda don't light up those fields reliably for me, but window-eyes does.

Of course when jaws does light up,
then I get access to some of the script functions,
so early days and we'll keep plugging away and see what we can see.

No, I haven't tried any other screen reders. I just think that the
developers didn't implement the tabs and dialogs to navigate properly
according to the standard windows conventions.

For example, when focus is on the name of a particular tab, left and right
arrow should move the focus to the previous and next tab names. This does
not happen in the Sonar X3 and Platinum Preferences dialogs. Thus the need
to use control+tab to move from tab to tab. So they got it half right but
missed something.

Good catch about X-Ray being on by default, though. We should all uncheck
that. I don't think it's a good idea to use X-Ray with JAWS.

Have you tried with another screen-reader just for grins?

Yes, these dialogs don't navigate exactly as one would expect using the
standard Windows keyboard shortcuts. Control+Tab is the way to go.

Also, from the Help pull down menu in Platinum, I tried to hit the
"download
documentation" so that I could then select to only use On-Line
documentation. This worked in X3, but with Platinum when I clicked the
Download documentation item under Help, I was brought to a web page where
I
had to select my product. Unfortunately, the ComboBox on that page wasn't
working with JAWS.

If you can figure out how to use on-line Help with Platinum, that would be
very helpful.

Thanks.

One thing you guys I noticed that xray had been turned on in platinum,
so you definitely want to disable that.

Man they dumped everything in that one preferences area, there are a ton
of tabs in there, I was never seeing everything, mousing around but when
I control tabbed, everything showed up.

Silliness, I don't know why I didn't think to do that, that's so obvious
with child windows,
I do that everywhere else automatically to get to plug windows and such
to see if it works.

Going to go stand in the dum dum corner now.
'grin'.

Ok more strangeness.

I got the tracks list to light up finally for a while in jaws.

Now when I use the control and arrow keys to change volume or pan and
such it moves by one increment value, like going from 127 to 126 but
it says no children, no objects so it's trying to do something else,
but it's looping back around to do the pan function or volume, or what
ever it's own.

Now this is strange.

When ever I fire up jaws, I get some sort of window that says
something like hud fb and nothing will read.

I can fire up window-eyes and dismiss the window and get basic track
navigation, I've gotten things to light up a few times with jaws, but
none of the keys work as expected,
not alt 1 not control shift f12 for tracks list, it is weird.

I have got the resolution set right, I actually had it bigger but I
put it at 1280 by 1024
I know the scripts are loaded because I do insert q and get the blind
sonar deal, so go figure.

but with window-eyes everything lights up.

Well, as much as it can, you know what i mean.
