Terra

Thank you so much for this well thought out, well constructed post that leaves
emotion out of it and sticks to the facts at hand.

There obviously has been much discussion, not just on lists, but also at dog
shows among members.  Last week I wrote a post as well, regarding spenditure,
loss of benefits to the membership, loss of funds to the regional clubs, etc.

I do want to state that I know there are several board members that are very
aware of what is being said and are listening and in agreement with the
membership and share in this frustration.  I would like to point that out, that
when posts are made, and the "Board" or "PC" is being talked about or
questioned, it is not always necessarily everyone on the board.  There are
several that are trying very very hard to keep this fiscal situation and
membership consideration in balance.  THANKS to those board members, you
know who you are!!!!!

The points Terra has made are the exact points that need to be looked at.  She
is so correct in her statement that if the membership is being asked to make
concessions, the ones making those requests need to make the same concessions
and need to take a long hard look at their expenditures as well.

It just does not look good and is plain wrong to keep taking and taking and
taking and not make any changes at the top level.   I am so ok with a
Bi-Monthly Review or perhaps a quarterly issue, IF some concessions are made at
the top.  Reduce # of Board members.  It's been discussed for several years
now, I do believe it's time to do this.  I see the value in face to face board
meetings, and don't think it's fair to expect board members  to pay their own
way.  They do not get paid, give up an entire weekend, and really have to
problem with paying for their plane tickets or gas to get there, and the hotel
costs.  If we reduce the # on the board, there would be considerable savings on
that end.  Also, to make the board more efficient, instead of just 3 regular
Board Meetings and then the Sunday at the National (which never allows enough
time to do anything constructive), have monthly teleconferance/internet board
meetings.  Then some of these
important items would be addressed in a more timely manner.  For all this to
fiscally work though, an itemized financial report has to be available to each
board member.  It needs to be a current report, with Quick Books, that is 100%
feasable.

It seems the National is the biggest money loosing event over the past 3
years.  I know that the membership is not in total aggreement on locations
either and that it is impossible to make everyone happy on this issue.  The
biggest drivng force now though is to pick the locations that have the best
attendance AND are most affordable.  I know I will get blasted on this, but the
Central locations seem to loose the least amount of money and have the larger #
of entries.  It's not trying to disenfranchise anyone, it is simple math at
this point.  Flying dogs is going to become harder and harder, so it's back to
driving to the Nationals with the dogs, or people not entering dogs and flying
just to to attend.  What does not sit well is hearing that everything is
getting padded with the fees to make up 3 years of bad management and losses.
Having to pay $115/stall when there is not cost to the club, doubling the RV
rental and making money on each room
at the host just looks plain greedy.  As said over and over again, don't
punish everyone for bad judgement over the past 3 years.  Chalk it up to bad
managment and move forward, but don't keep gouging the people still willing to
enter and attend.  Make the stall fees $50 and look like heros!!

As far as the Futurity/Maturity's, I was against eliminating the 2-4th place
wooden plaques.  Now, in light of everything, if those get changed to nice
Rosettes, ok, so be it.  BUT, don't rob the Regional clubs of the Purina Money
support.  At least designate a portion of that money and let the Regional clubs
keep the profit, otherwise what incentive is there to keep the program alive?
I think it is still a valuable program, but if the Regional Club's loose money
hosting it, you will loose the vehicle that drives the program and then what??
Quit making the Regional Clubs pay for lossees the National incurs!  As Terra
stated so correctly, the Parent Club is not the Government, you are not allowed
to rob Peter just to pay Paul!

In closing, again, I know there are board members that are tyring to do the
right thing and are well aware of what is going on and are listening to the
membership.  This is directed at those that think they are "above the law" and
make decisions without regard to the membership or the survival of the Regional
Clubs.

Thanks for reading
