Terra,
You bring up SO many good points. Points that from what I hear are very very
common among members! You (and others) may be surprised that I agree with
just about all you have said! <vbg>
A few additions to your comments...
Regarding the Review - There must be other options out there which would create
& allow less expensive advertising for the membership. We need to seek that
out and not just accept what has always been. Find an alternative and make the
Review cost effective for the membership. Less expensive ads will translate
into more advertising.
I like your idea of at least temporarily having Nationals outside and central.
What better way to save a ton of money and increase entries. Sometimes simple
is good.
Futurities - Absolutely these should be done by the regional clubs! AND the
Purina money should be going to those clubs to help make them successful!
Lastly, on another note, I was told this weekend that the GSDCA was able to
secure the stalls at the National without any additional cost to the club.
Um...FREE! But yet, the cost to the membership remains the same - $115.
Quite honestly, that is just disgusting and that is a prime example of why
people are fed up. The GSDCA should be passing savings like that on to the
membership. Charge $50 for the week. The GSDCA will still be profiting a lot
of $$, but the membership will be saving $$ and will be grateful for it! It's
not rocket science. How annoying....
I do know that there are several board members who agree with the above...so I
don't want the above viewed as a blanket statement of the board. I have spoken
to board members who share the same frustrations and to those, I applaud your
efforts. Thank you for hanging in there and speaking on behalf of the
membership.

Sally Hayden brought up a good question; what are we willing to give up for dog
howing and or the Parent Club?
et me remind everyone that the majority of the parent club membership are baby
oomers...retired and or on the countdown to retiring. Therefore we here at
eggi Fair are wondering how we are going to survive in our golden years. Are
e going to have our state retirement or will we loose that too? Will we have
dequate health care and at what cost? So in the last month we made major
ecisions for our household; 1. cell phone plans are going to change-no more
nternet and web for us, back to the LG phones and pay by month to lower costs,
. we are getting rid of the house phone, 3. dropped the contracts with the bug
an (Terminex), lawn guy (Tru Green), and water delivery (Spring Green), our
003 van has 190,00 miles on it. We decided to buy another van (not New) with
nly 80,000 miles as we really don't need a van for everyday driving when we are
etired, forget the addition of the 4 season room on the house, no more
raveling and motels to dogs shows more than 300 mi
les away, No more use of credit cards unless for an emergency. We still feel
ery fortunate to have our jobs and be able to have and breed dogs but....are we
illing to pay more for a subscription to the Review? Are we willing to enter
nd participate in the Futurity/Maturity system, are we willing to pay higher
ues to the GSDCA? Probably not and that too will be cut. Please don't ask us
o spend more as we make very informed decisions on how to cut our monthly
udgets in our households because a group (GSDCA) wants to host huge dog parties
o prove to the World how great we are. Please show me where you (GSDCA) are
aking cuts and not just spending more to (MAYBE) make a profit. EVERYBODY is
utting their budgets!
ere is what I would cut at the GSDCA.......
. No more paid travel to the Board Meetings unless you are the President, Vice
resident, Treasurer and Secretary. Everyone else can call in. It is done all
he time at the state and Federal Level and it works. Exceptions would be made
epending on the needs.
. Reduce the Board (come on how out of date and touch are you all for thinking
igger is better)!
. NO WORLD SHOWS or other BIG SHOWS except for the National...not until our
OUSE IS IN ORDER (GSDCA) both financially and ethically.
. Quarterly Review and only one part time paid staff and a less expensive
ormat. Pass on the savings to the members of the GSDCA so they can afford to
dvertise-brag.
. Nationals outside and in the fall and more centrally located for at least
he next five years.
. Let the Regional Clubs run their own Futurities and KEEP ALL THE
ONEY>>>they work hard on those weekends and should be REWARDED FINANCIALLY.
STOP the madness of passing on "nickel and dime mentality" . . . I do not want
o pay extra for a motel room at the HOST hotel because the Board needs money.
nd this is funny as this is the first year ever that WE got a reservation at
he HOST!!! I do not want to pay extra for RV parking because the BOARD gets
he cut. I do not want to pay HUGE prices to set up my booth at a NATIONAL
ecause the BOARD NEEDS MONEY!!! I NEED MONEY TOO! If I find out who those
ere that thought that was a good idea to make money I will make it my personal
ledge to get the word out when election time comes.
I want to see a BOARD that is willing to understand the "BIG PICTURE" and not
orget about a it's membership and what they need. WE WANT IMMEDIATE
RANSPARENCY! NO WE ARE NOT TEA PARTIERS! Come ON! We are Baby Boomers that
re trying to hold onto our MIDDLE CLASS STANDING! DO YOU HEAR US?
