Ginger writes: People don't believe me when I tell them that rescues/shelters are importing dogs from out of the country.... here is proof.... Hey, California, and New Mexico, and Colorado..... if there is such a HUGE problem with "overpopulation" that they absolutely MUST have MSN... why are these dogs being imported from out of the country?? And Stormy Calls and Raises her SEVEN!!! and reminds everybody that the EAST COAST is getting the same importing to shelters and rescues...And don't forget the imports from the streets of Japan, disabled dogs, yet. http://www.cwob.org:80/latessstrescue.html http://hope4animals.org;80/index.html http://www.petfinder.com:80/shelters/MX03.html http://peoplesguide.com:80/1pages/chapts/pets/pets.html http://www.animalplace.org/dogsrescues.html United Hope for Animals is a non-profit organization committed to ending the suffering and mistreatment of dogs and cats in Tijuana and Southern California. Through us, these animals benefit from spay and neuter services in areas where families cannot afford them; rescue, adoption and foster care where- and whenever possible; and additional support and education for those who will care for them. Our (Animal Place) Mexican Dog Rescue Program began in June, 2001 and over 200 dogs have been rescued and placed in loving homes to date. The dogs are rescued from the Refugio Franciscano, a large no-kill shelter in Mexico City that houses more than 2,000 animals. The dogs, who face little to no chance at adoption at the Refugio, typically come from backgrounds of extreme abuse, neglect, and cruelty. Christi Payne and Juan Ramon Camblor, Animal Place sanctuary residents and Compassion Without Borders cofounders select the dogs based on temperament and size, (small dogs are much easier to find homes for). Citizens for Animal Protection and Education funds all of the transport for the lucky canines. The dogs spend a two week voluntary quarantine at Animal Place where they are nursed back to health emotionally and physically by sanctuary workers and volunteers. During this time they are groomed, sterilized, vaccinaded & dewormed. After this holding period, the dogs are adopted out thanks to the hard work of Citizens for Animal Protection and Education (CAPE), Small Dog Rescue, and the Marin Humane Society. ************** Planning your summer road trip?
