Yes, Karen, every single person that applies to judge GSDs should be sat
down and taught our standard, but they are not. The GSDCA is not in charge
of who gets approved to judge. The AKC is working to improve but they have
a way to go yet.
For example, if a judge is approved for a number of breeds they will give
them the balance of a group or even en entire group without testing. We
recently showed to an all breed Best In Show judge who only examined the
bite when he checked mouths. Obviously he had not read our standard. I'm
sure this same judge would not even consider a long coat.
