In Pembroke Welsh Corgi dogs, long coats are called "fluffies." They are
usually sold on spay/neuter agreements and are not shown. Fluffies come in
several variations, just as long-coated Shepherds do. In no case would any
reputable Corgi breeder or owner even think of showing one. In fact, when
the standard was revised, the term "fluffies" was incorporated into the
standard as a fault for which a dog should be very seriously penalized.
As I stated in an earlier post, the coat is not usually suitable for
a dog expected to work in all weather...that is why it isa fault. Contrary
to what some think, it is not just a cosmetic problem.
In the early 70s I knew a woman who tried to trim a borderline fluff
because she wanted to show it...but all it took was one time in the ring and
that was that...everyone knew at first sight..........if she wanted to
maintain any semblance of respectablity in the breed, she wouldn't show it
again...and she didn't.
