I don't see reducing the regions as a good solution.? Especially in the West Coast where geography, travel time and expenses can be prohibitive.? Especially in these hard economic times.? The Futurity is a match.? It is important to see the up and coming youngsters.? But, it is not going to be a priority for folks on fixed incomes, retired or not independantly wealthy.? What I would like to see is the Futurity/Maturity being held the same day as the specialty.? If I have to travel, I would prefer not to have to take that extra day off to show on Friday for the Futurity.? Clubs have become experts in drawing out every specialty, no matter how small the entry.? 5 hours to judge 50 dogs, please.? Why not do the Futurity in the am and the specialty in the afternoon.? Keep the Regions (make more on the West Coast) and give more people options on where to showcase their pups.? Let them enter as many as they want and choose the one that best fits when the time comes.? Out of coat, c hange of judge, Pano, and other issues may prevent one from being able to show at the only Futurity they were allowed to enter with these young dogs.? Having options is a good thing.??For example, had ear issues at the time of?her Futurity.? One month later, I was able to show same dog at a local specialty.? Ears are great.? If I had an option, I could show in a later Futurity.? Not now and must wait until Maturity next year.? Then again, my region?will require me to travel 2 days, then?3 days of showing and 2 days back.??Not an option.? I am sure I am not the only one cutting back?and numbers will continue to drop unless we make do more, not less to motivate and?assist people in getting out there to showcase?their dogs and stay in the game.??? Just some thoughts. Maybe they should reduce the number of futurity regions from what it is now ( I think nine ) to maybe six and then there would be more entries at a particular futurity.? I agree that a dog only defeating seven other dogs to go BIF is like a joke.? But on the other hand I do not know this dog that you are talking about and with respect for the owner of this dog......he might be nice enough to win a futurity with fifty dogs??? I remember when there were thirty dogs in one futurity class.? The teenage class used to be one of the largest classes.? Now we are lucky if there are ten.? I also did not like it when they started doing reserve futurity and maturity winners.? Reduce the number of regions and allow exhibitors to enter only two regions. JMO. To say that "let's leave it the way it is...and there's nothing wrong with the Fut system " ? is puzzling, at best? If that is correct then why as for instance did the SP BIF male only have to defeat SEVEN dogs total to get that title???? Why are futurity numbers falling off in record rates?? No there ARE problems, and I know many people that would love to be able to have the chance to show at various shows for reasons like:? out of coat, or not that judge or too far, or can't schedule. It gives exhibitors more leeway, so they dont HAVE to pass on the only chance they might get to show, because of the above reasons or pano or st ages in growth etc.? I think it is a step in the right direction.? Kathy Tank http://www.victorygermanshepherds.com ~or~ http://www.germanshepherdssocal.com PUP-DATED: ?MAY 6, 2009 Home of: CH.
