Interesting Richard. Cold weather kills batteries so I would certainly
opt for a mechanical camera like a Rollei if you are there in winter.
You may want to have it CLA's too as the temperatures there may affect
lubricants that are not designed for those climates.

If you have a 35mm SLR take it and some long lenses for the wildlife
you may come across. This way you can have your telephoto and bracket
the shots accordingly. Even if it does use batteries, many SLRs have a
remote power packs you can keep inside your coat to keep the juice
flowing. If not, you can keep the battery in your coat until you are
ready to use it and then you will be set.

While the 4x5 is nice, it may be overkill but I am not a 4x5 user so I
will leave that to the larger format experts on the list.
