Please take it easy Rick. Gee, I didn’t think you were such a sensitive guy.
:-). I do think that ROC has become more person dependent. You don’t. I do
think comments similar to “then you do it” have become a knee jerk reaction to
just about any new idea. So, rather than considering the input, it’s shut
down. Why? Usually, because “we” are too busy already; we are doing enough
already. I think the problem is the “too busy part.” Maybe you don’t. Maybe
no one else does. I’m cool with that. So, tell me I’m wrong. I’m cool with
that too.
Please re-read the posts including the ones from David.
So, I’m not bashing the Board. Did I bash the Board? No, I didn’t bash the
Board. Other than Allen clearing up my miss. There were no other comments
from the Board. So, yes, I didn’t think there was interest. If there’s no
interest, I can handle that. My comments were based more on what David said
and previous experience than just this subject.
Yeah, some of my ideas are not good. I know that btw. And some (like the
metal for nose weight post) are very controversial. I know that too btw. And,
some are good and also controversial (like the nose weight post). LOL
So, what do you expect from chat? What’s a good idea? What’s a bad idea?
What’s a good comment, and a bad one? I could say, “I don’t think the Board is
interested,” and Mike can come back with, “Dierking, no we just haven’t had
time to consider this.” Wow, I’m not insulted. I was just wrong.
Lastly, regarding what I saw with the aircraft and rocket launch experience, I
really didn’t expect anyone to follow with “yeah, I was there and it was a bit
scary.” I wrote what happened in my notebook, and there was no mention of this
and how to help prevent it until I just brought it up here. So, I’m not
impatient. This was months ago. I see things, I wait, then I speak up.
Wow, you are such a writer Rick. What a good chat we are having.

Richard, since you just brought this up yesterday on the chat, I’m not sure
if anyone on board has had time to think about it. I, for one, have been
building rockets for ROCStock!
Are you concerned about commercial traffic or private/GA aircraft?

Thank you for the info James. I don’t think the ROC Board is interested in
this at the moment. I’m going to use the flightradar24 app that Andrew
suggested. It’s interesting just watching the air traffic.
And, no, I wouldn’t watch the screen during a whole launch. But, before I
launch a rocket of mine, yes, I would check the app first. And, I want to
learn more about what it has to offer.
Just check out air traffic around the Hawaiian Islands with the eruption on
Hawaii. Interesting stuff, but sorry, going OT.

I didn't spend the launch monitoring my screen at LDRS.
And ... I spotted 4 airliners in our area at LDRS (two UA, 2 AA), all at
FL30 above us.
Maybe you saw the ADSB setup that David brought to LDRS, similar but
better UI.
I keep mine under the table. I also modified the code to alert me when
something is within 4nm
of our launch site. I can give you the patch if you're interested.

Easy and cheap, and if you want to spend the entire launch sitting and
monitoring your screen.
ROCstock would be a great launch to test it.
See how much useful information you actually get and report back.
