Another idea would be to have software that allows the F, D, S, J, K, L
keys to be used as the six Braille dots.  F, D, S would be dots 1, 2 and
3.  J, K, L would be dots 4, 5 and 6.

I have two different keyboards I use for portable devices, one I can
roll up and put inside a backpack or large pocket, while the other one
is a wireless keyboard that simply folds in half, though you need a flat
surface to use it well, since it doesn't connect the two halves of the
keyboard with any stability.  I used to use a 2-by-4 cut to length I'd
lay across my lap, and sit the keyboard on that, that worked, but then
we needed that piece of wood for something else, and it disappeared on
me, so I have to work much harder now to make it work.

The roll up keyboard works well too, but you really need a full-blown
table or large flat surface to put it on, since it has no structural
integrity of it's own.  I did at one point have a keyboard that folded
into quarters, and looked like a handheld gaming device (kind of like
the Nentendo 3ds or similar when it was folded up, but the keys were so
small I had trouble working on it, so gave it to my wife who has much
smaller fingers than I do. Don't know what happened to it after that
though.

But, again, with proper drivers, I don't see why it couldn't be done.
Maybe I'll look into finding out what's needed for a keyboard driver, I
have a couple numpad devices lying around here, so testing would be
relatively easy.

The problem is the keyboard. I have a battery pack and a pi and speaker
in a case. It saved me a bunch of cash on a laptop. For quick work, is it
possible to use a number pad as a braille keyboard?

I am using a full qwerty desktop for now which is larger than everything
else.
