Hi,I don't dry mount my prints but use acid free linen tape hinges to mount my prints inside the mat. I would find it difficult to spend that kind of money (Justin mentioned $350cdn for a used 12x15) just to flattened my prints. Guess I'll stick with my 6 blotter rolls and dry screens and then flattening them under the weight all those art books.
By the way, a question to those who use drying screens, what is the distance between screens? An artist friend of mine gave me 3 frames for stretching canvas. I stapled fiberglass screens to them, piano hinges on the back and I can dry 4 8x10 prints per frame. The frames are 3/4 in. thick, thus 3/4 in. between screens.

Well yes value is completely relative to the use. I bought my press new in 1990 and have done an awful lot of custom printing since then. I often need to get prints flattened and packaged quickly first thing in the day. Over the 18 years of owning the drymount press how many prints have I flattened with it. It is frightening to do the math. Just this morning I needed to flatten 30 prints. I would guess I have done something like 20 thousand prints with it. How much would that have cost in blotter paper and waiting an extra couple of days? For me the probable couple hundred dollars I spent on the press is well worth it. But I can see in lots of cases it might not be worth just giving up the counter space to. When I use the blotter rolls, I leave the prints in the rolls over night and then, the next day, I stack them between two scrap pieces of 11x14 mat board and weight them down with several choice heavy art books for a day or two. Art can be weighty ;) Prints come out perfectly flat.snip.........If you are going to make a lot of fiber prints then a dry mount press is worth the cost.Cheers, Bogdan============================================================================================================= To unsubscribe from this list, go to www.freelists.org and logon to your account (the same e-mail address and password you set-up when you subscribed,) and unsubscribe from there.
