And another thing. . . :-)
Linhof’s are relatively heavy, but they close with many lenses in place. I find
that to be a great advantage. Others might not.
Closing the camera without removing the lens only works, of course, for
relatively small lenses (short front-to-back). My IV closes on Apo-Symmar 150
(on a recessed board), all shorter Symmar type lenses on flat boards, as well
as the 210mm Fuji version of the Tessar and the 210mm G-Claron. And, of
course, all pinholes.
Some of the early 20th century wooden cameras were built so that the front
double track was folded up for transport. The lens could remain on many other
those. I think I have a Seneca 8x10 like that.
