I pretty much follow Jim's techniques.

However, one useful midification I made to the bamboo tongs is that I
drill a small hole thru the plastic end which holds the bamboo,
and then screw in a small stainless screw. The screw goes through
both bamboo slabs, and keeps them from falling out after they shrinks a bit.
