Well, he should surely try another brand.
But I did have a thought reading the post below.
There's another reason for recording to the card first.
When I used the plex 1, I used to get sometimes tracks that didn't contain anything. you know, one right against another. When I was on the card I could check that stuff. Then I would take out the track numbers that were glitches and din't contain anything. I always liked to get the disk into good shape before going to the CD. and even then sometimes my old plextalk 1 cd's didn't always come out right.
But that's separate from this issue of the finalization process.

I still say: the acid test is to try one of those non-playable disks somewhere else to see if they will play or if it is just the ptr1 that thinks they're bad disks.

We're waiting with bated breath--almost.

Bill - The only reason you might want to record to the card first would be
if you wanted to make several copies of the recordings on different disks,
or if for some reason you didn't trust the disk, and didn't want to lose the
recording.

When you finalise a disk, you have two choices, one is to close the disk,
which then means you can't add to it, and the other is to close the disk,
but enable you to 'open' it again from the edit menu, if you decide you want
to add to it.

It is important not to interrupt the finalisation process, when you have
chosen how you want the disk finalised, let it get on with it, takes about a
minute or so, and will announce when it is done, you can then remove it
from the player.

Have you got any different disks to try?

Good luck -

Andy

| Dear Andy,
|
| Yes, it was after I successfully recorded to the disk, shut down, then
went back to play it again that it said "damaged disk". Then I tried a
different disk fresh from the shrink wrap and it said the same thing. I
wonder if I damaged it in the finalization process, maybe didn't let it have
time to finish. Also, the last thing I did after finalizing was close the
disk, and it said "disk closed". Could that have messed it up?
|
| I really
| do appreciate all your help! Would it help if I did first record to the
card? If I do, how do I copy it onto a disk then?

| Bill - firstly, no, you don't need to record to the card, you can record
| strait to disk, but as we are all saying, in order for you to be able to
| play it in a conventional music only cd player, it will need to be an
audio
| and not a data cd, so you will need to be careful when buying.
|
| Ok, in respect of the invalid or damage disk thing, I have found with my
| PTR1, and others have had similar experience, that it doesn't like certain
| brands of cd, for some strange reason, and that could be your problem. Can
| you make a recording ok? is it only when after finalising the disk and
then
| trying to replay it that you get that message? -

|| Dear Frank,

|| Actually the only requirement for making a standard CD is that you use a
|| blank audio CD. Your actual initial recording onto your flash card
|| can be any format you wish either pcm44 pcm 22 pcm256 etc. You need to
|| understand that the highest quality copy will be produced if you record
|| with pcm44. But you may not need the highest quality or may not have
|| enough storage space on your flash card to record at the highest
|| quality. For example use pcm44 for making a copy of a CD. But if you
|| are recording an old monofonic LP you are wasting space since pcm22 is
|| just as high quality as pcm44 but monofonic. For radio shows that I
|| want to put onto standard CD for playing back in my car stereo Iusually
|| only record the original flash card copy using mp3 128. When you "
|| backup" to the audio format CD you still can select music quality and
|| the mp3 will be converted to a standard CD music file. This quality is
|| completely adequate for fm radio quality and takes much less space on
|| my flash card.

||
||| Dear List,
|||
||| I would like to record some standard cd's on my ptr1. I want to be
|| able
|| to play them then in turn on a standard cd player. What settings must I
||
|| have my ptr1 on to do this? I think there are two number choices: 44
|| and
|| 128; does it matter which of these I choose. Also, the ptr1 says to
|| press
|| the record key to prepare for daisey recording. If I don't want a
|| daisey
|| recording, what must I change.
|||
||| Thank you very much in advance!
