Bill
Audio discs are often packaged as MUSIC CDs....

Maxell and Sony work well on the PTR1.

Bill - firstly, no, you don't need to record to the card, you can record
strait to disk, but as we are all saying, in order for you to be able to
play it in a conventional music only cd player, it will need to be an audio
and not a data cd, so you will need to be careful when buying.

Ok, in respect of the invalid or damage disk thing, I have found with my
PTR1, and others have had similar experience, that it doesn't like certain
brands of cd, for some strange reason, and that could be your problem. Can
you make a recording ok? is it only when after finalising the disk and then
trying to replay it that you get that message? -

| Dear Frank,
|
| Am I understanding then that I should first record to the card rather than
directly to the CD? Also, I am now encountering a new problem: When I
finished recording to the disk, finalized, then closed it, shut down and
went back to play it and it says "damaged or defective disk". I tried
inserting a brand new disk just taken from the shrink wrap and dog gone if
it doesn't say the same thing, "damaged or defective disk". What could be
wrong?

| Many thanks for all the help you can give.

| Actually the only requirement for making a standard CD is that you use a
| blank audio CD. Your actual initial recording onto your flash card
| can be any format you wish either pcm44 pcm 22 pcm256 etc. You need to
| understand that the highest quality copy will be produced if you record
| with pcm44. But you may not need the highest quality or may not have
| enough storage space on your flash card to record at the highest
| quality. For example use pcm44 for making a copy of a CD. But if you
| are recording an old monofonic LP you are wasting space since pcm22 is
| just as high quality as pcm44 but monofonic. For radio shows that I
| want to put onto standard CD for playing back in my car stereo Iusually
| only record the original flash card copy using mp3 128. When you "
| backup" to the audio format CD you still can select music quality and
| the mp3 will be converted to a standard CD music file. This quality is
| completely adequate for fm radio quality and takes much less space on
| my flash card.

| You need to choose 44.1 pcm stereo, and to use a music cd and not a data
| cd,
| and then finalise it after the recording -

|| Dear List,
||
|| I would like to record some standard cd's on my ptr1. I want to be
| able
| to play them then in turn on a standard cd player. What settings must I
|
| have my ptr1 on to do this? I think there are two number choices: 44
| and
| 128; does it matter which of these I choose. Also, the ptr1 says to
| press
| the record key to prepare for daisey recording. If I don't want a
| daisey
| recording, what must I change.
||
|| Thank you very much in advance!
