Hi,
Having participated very recently in robotics competitions and
learning robotics for the first time as a visually impaired person, I
used a programming tool called Robot C, which was a paid software that
had been purchased by the institute/centre where I was learning
robotics, which I used to contribute my bit in the programming part of
the robot making. I found it usable enough and it met my needs.
The NXT and EV3 programming tools that are recommended for the World
Robotics Olympiad (the competition in which I participated) are
extremely graphical in interface and nature, thus compelling me to use
the Robot C alternative.
Thanks.

Hello:
Some years ago (2009), I used NXC (Not Exactly c) to program a Lego
Mindstorm. I also had a Vex robot and used Robotc in 2007. As for the
Lego,
I was able to operate the control panel to run the program I compiled.
The
Lego unit has other functions which are not accessible.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Robert
