Hello
Yes, lego manuals and instructions are all graphical. To read them
could be tricky, but not impossible with some help.
My recommendation for beginners is to get some lego technics to start
practicing to build with the mechanical elements, nothing robotic yet;
then to get the mindstorm.
In this way we will not be so attached to the graphic instructions.

Thanks John.
I wonder, how do we read the LEGO manual? I believe it is graphical.

Hey Sean,
All else being equal, LEGO is probably the easiest I've seen so far. The kits
are around 350 - 400 or so, but don't require electronics expertise to get
started. Making one walk around a room is relatively easy with a little
practice.

I wasn’t aware of so many people doing robotics. So where do you start if you
are completely new and don’t have a degree in electronics or programming, and
are just interested in learning for a hobby. How much are basic robotic kits? I
don’t have anyone who knows electronics, so I am really seeking for something
that is simple to build and program. My idea is to build a robot just to walk
around a room. I don’t know how difficult this would be or not.
Any resources or tips would be great. So I can start. I will be looking for a
robotic club in Sydney Australia to see if they can help.

The Vex platform has pieces that bolt together. The robotc was
fully accessible. I used a command line to compile my programs. If I
recall correctly, I used a USB cable to transfer the code. This was in 2007.

Hello
and how accessible was the Vex platform? regarding both, software
and hardware?

Some years ago (2009), I used NXC (Not Exactly c) to program a
Lego Mindstorm. I also had a Vex robot and used Robotc in 2007. As
for the Lego, I was able to operate the control panel to run the
program I compiled. The Lego unit has other functions which are not accessible.
Hope this helps.

Robert
