Inge, I read Scotts comments too, and I have to agree with him. The problem with trying to restore the system piece meal is part of the problem, it tends to get really messy because most of your programs have various control files in the Windows folder. Then just restoring the Windows system from a back up will have these files already in there, so you then go to re-install some of the programs and they balk because they look at files in the windows folder and indicate that you already have the program installed etc. It can get to be a tie consuming operation. If in fact you have enough hard drive space to back up the everything using PowerQuest Disk Image especially to the external hard drive you will find it extremely easy to restore and then be able to apply your regular Data Backup you will be right back to your current systems as of your last Data Backup. Granted you may never need it, in the last 15 years I have needed it only three times. But when I did have it the restore was a matter of hours versus many days of work the time I did not have it. Particularly because the tape backup that I had was partially corrupted and did not restore anything after the tape error. The size of the compressed hard drive backup will be approximately 60% of the total size of all your files. Just some thoughts to consider.
