Hi, Jan.

Normal.dot is a file that Word uses as a template for a blank document.
Every time Word launches, it looks for that file. If it doesn't find
it, it recreates it.

This is why Linda & Greg are suggesting you rename Normal.dot. By
renaming it, Word won't be able to find it and will create a new copy
(all set to defaults). What you rename it to doesn't matter as long as
it's NOT Normal.dot.

You should also know that Normal.dot is used to store any changes that
have been made to the new document template. If the user has customized
anything (this includes signatures), the customizations will be lost
when Word creates a new, blank, standard Normal.dot file.

Hope this helps.

Linda & Greg thank you.

Ok, I will do search for 'normal dot', & if I find it you said to
rename it...it must matter as to what I should name it, doesn't it?

I would think it should always have the name of Normal dot in order for
it to work with word. Sorry to be making such a big deal about naming
something.

Linda, got ABC.......thanks
Jan

Close Word and search her computer for normal.dot and rename it. Open
Word
again and it should be fine. Normal.dot is a new blank document.

I will send you this month's ABC privately now, Jan.

Subject: [mso] New document isn't new

  Good morning to everyone,

One of my seniors has a very strange situation so here I am again.
When she
clicks on "new" either the blank paper icon under file or whether she
clicks
file>new it opens with a letter that she wrote to someone four or five
months ago. Some months ago, when she wrote the letter she apparently
didn't
'save as' but may she just 'save' changes??? Anyway she couldn't get
rid of
this letter so ran a search & threw everything with that persons name
on it
away, & emptied recycle bin. But still every time she clicks on new
up
  comes that letter.

There must be a place where we can reset the New document to open
blank & I
  would appreciate your guidance.

By the way Linda, never received this months ABC, could you please
resend?

  Thanks...............................Jan
