I am reminded of a story about the Taoist sage, Chuang-tzu. The king, who
had heard of Chuang-tzu's reputation for wisdom, sent his officials to
invite the sage to become his prime minister. When the officials put the
proposition to Chuang-tzu, who was sitting by a riverbank fishing, he
replied. 'You must be familiar with the gold-encrusted tortoise that sits on
the alter of the royal temple. Would it rather be dead and covered with
gold? Or alive and wiggling its tail in the mud?....Begone. I, too, will
wiggle my tail in the mud.'
