"We" let Africa "slip through our fingers"?? And I thought you were merely idealistic/cynical (flip sides of the Janus coin). Turns out you too join the rest of the planet in self-aggrandizement and a sense of entitlement. Not a condemnation or insult, just the acknowledgement that you, too, are human. All too human. God help the next country, state, or continent that "we" let "slip through *our* fingers". But, you're right, whether we talk about global warming or not, it will go on without us, as did Iraq, as did our passing the baton to China, as did pharma's looting, as did... Like with Iraq, we'll wake up one day and say, oh my God, what happened? Whatever. For Paul, Africa has huge resources to offer. That's why the Europeans and the U.S. have so disrupted it. It's also why the Chinese are buddying up to Africa, and why al Qaeda has entrenched there. We're the ones too stupid to let it slip through our fingers, along with everything else. -----Original Message----- From: JimKandJulieB@xxxxxxx Sent: Dec 27, 2006 11:56 AM To: lit-ideas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [lit-ideas] Re: Global warming claims tropical island Lightenup. Used to be a screen name of mine. Rent, borrow, check out, or buy "Good Life, Good Death". Global tragedy is awful. Personal tragedy is less (voluminously) than global tragedy. When's the last time you lost your spouse, mother, and children in the space of a year? Yeah, I know. That doesn't address the big-picture. There's a lot of joy, beauty, peace, fun that you're missing out on. It amazes me, or not, knowing what humans are like, that the media isn't making a big deal out of global warming. Obviously because they know most people don't care about it; it's not really happening; if it's happening, it's happening to the poor over there, even though, rest assured, the planet has no prejudices. Most haven't even spent 90 minutes watching Al Gore's movie. Titanic did something like 1.3 billion in sales worldwide. Gore's movie did something like 39 million. And, of course, Gilligan sold his rights so he got not a dime. -----Original Message----- >From: Eric Yost <eyost1132@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> >Sent: Dec 27, 2006 8:20 AM >To: lit-ideas@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >Subject: [lit-ideas] Re: Global warming claims tropical island > > >>For the first time, an inhabited island has disappeared >beneath rising seas. > >Any news from the crew of The Minnow? > >Your friend in Kleist, >Phoxinus Q.
