Difficult question, and a bit of a quandary too. One consideration could be getting it repaired in order to sell it rather than use it - you could probably recoup the repair costs and make more on the camera than you could expect when selling it with the tag - "defective, in need of repair". But then again, having it repaired makes you less likely to want to sell it. If I personally look at my camera collection, there are things in there that I would never use, hardly ever take out of the cabinet, are even virtually worthless - in a rational world I would have dumped them years ago - but it just doesn't work that way.
