I can recommend this. Put msconfig back the way it was and go to controll
pannel and remove the ati software. The video driver will be fine. AS for
other programs and services, a lot depends on What hardware and type of
connection you have on your computer so I am afraid there is no deffinitive
list.

Well, I contacted Freedom Scientific about my disappearing text problem,
and the first line of attack is to go to Msconfig and uncheck any ATI
programs that are running at startup. I've done that, but it hasn't
totally fixed the problem.
But while I'm at it, I want to identify any other unnecessary startup
programs and uncheck them as well. Can someone recommend a website that
discusses all the programs and whether it is safe to uncheck them in
Msconfig? Maybe there is another program that is the culprit.
