Hello Curtis:

Once you are at the Desktop, start jaws.

If you still have the "JAWS" icon highlighted, press ENTER. or use the JAWS
key combination JAWS KEY+J. This will open the JAWS application window.

The first item is the "Options" submenu, which is already highlighted. Press
the RIGHT ARROW key or ENTER to open this submenu.

The first item in this submenu is "Basics...", which is highlighted.

Press ENTER to open this menu item.

Now, Press the TAB key until you hear JAWS say "Automatically Start JAWS".

If the check box is unchecked, Press the SPACE BAR to check it.

Then press ENTER to close the "Options" menu item.

If you set up JAWS to start in the "Start" menu under programs, you will need
to delete the JAWS icon that is in there. Otherwise, Windows will attempt to
start JAWS a second time, which can cause a lot of problems.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Subject: getting jaws to come up talking.

My wife has a new computer, an AMD dual core 2.3Ghz with 2 gigs of ram. Jfw
will not come up talking, no matter the start up setting. I re-installed,
(looking for repair which did not exist for some reason), even running the
downloaded installation without that option shown to me, so un-installed, and
re-installed, keeping her settings for apps, etc. Still, the program, though
it's loaded, will not come up talking. It is using the standard Eloquence that
comes with it by default, so, any more ideas? If I am told how, I will set it
up to run as a service, but need to know how to do that.
