You use the keystroke when in the application properties/methods. IE if you go into say Tools, Options and on when on a particular control, shift f1 f1 will give you context sensitive help. It's a Windows feature rather than Jaws and is really useful if you want to find out what a control is used for, presupposing the developers have included context sensitive help Cheers Chris -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Yardbird Sent: 30 October 2006 15:25 To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Outlook or Outlook express? Thanks, Chris, but no wonder I couldn't understand. I'm using Outlook Express and Jaws V. 7.0 under Windows XP Home. If I press Shift F1 while in Outlook express, either with your message open or with it closed, the key combination does nothing whatsoever, except that Jaws says "Shift F1" to reflect the key press. Also, if I press Insert W, what I hear,as happens in every context when I press Insert W, is: "Following are useful Windows keyboard commands, followed by a litany of same. This is all that these two keystrokes do for me, no matter what application I'm in when I press them. I do wish I knew if that matters, or if there's something I ought to change in order to enjoy the benefit of these functions. Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mullins, Chris" <Chris.Mullins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, October 30, 2006 7:09 AM Subject: RE: Outlook or Outlook express? It's quite simple really, the initial thread was to do with getting Outlook to auto complete Email addresses and I suggested that shift f1 be used to check the Outlook screen tips for some controls within the interface. The lady who made the initial post could not get this to work on her machine, so someone suggested I really meant Insert f1 and I pointed that personn to the 1st item in the list under Insert w for Outlook. I believe the issue is now resolved Cheers Chris -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Yardbird Sent: 30 October 2006 14:42 To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Outlook or Outlook express? I confess that I haven't followed this thread from the beginning, and maybe that's why I don't understand something about this first post in the thread that I've opened, out of curiosity. what is it that someone's looking for? I'm not sure what you're talking about. Insert W, so far as I knowtell, brings up the same thing no matter which application you're in. It's a list of universal Windows keystrokes. The first one mentioned, if I understand your message below, is the press of the Alt key, which this list tells you is the key that will take you to the menu line of a Windows application. This isn't something most of us need to be told, nor anything at all unique to Outlook or Outlook Express. Am I misunderstanding what's being discussed? If there's something new to learn, I'd like to learn it, but this comment isn't clear to me. Thanks. gue----- Original Message ----- From: "Mullins, Chris" <Chris.Mullins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, October 30, 2006 12:56 AM Subject: RE: Outlook or Outlook express?
