I have been reluctant to switch to IE8 because little gotchas like this.
I have one particular task at work which involves an ActiveX control and
cannot afford that to break in the new browser even though personally I
am more of a Firefox person. Thanks for the tip.anyway.

Many on the eventual receiving end of this new release of IE8 will not
have seen or perhaps understand the rather tortuous twists and turns the
IE8 development went through regarding the rendering engine vis a vis
standards and alternative rendering modes. For years IE has been a
complete law unto itself and everybody just had to follow they way it
did things. Now that it has belated embranced standards of a sort it
has broken many of the kludges people used to make it work. This is why
I have been extremely relunctant to become an IE8 user.

One hopes that when Windows 7.0 comes out a very great majority of those
2500 websites have been cleaned up. The public beta builds of Windows 7
will actually include a final release of IE8 in them.

Regards.
