amro I am still wondering if it is possible to find out just what you do have running at start up and if there is a way of telling the amount of power you are using, it almost sounds as if not sufficient power is reaching your Pc at the moment you need it, today for some reason my Desktop started to make a rattling sound when I was not actually doing anything, as if an update was coming in I checked but last was July and not till next Wednesday will August batch come in. there must be a way of telling if your P C is working to full capacity, but I am not technical does Jaws load up after Microsoft? Maybe you have too much running at start up, you could ask Graham this he seems knowledgeable Dorothy----- Original Message ----- From: "Amro Bilal" <amro_bilal@xxxxxxx>

I've just updated my audio drivers as well but that didn't make any different. Thanks for the suggestion though. Cheers, Amro----- Original Message ----- From: Graham Page

Maybe you have 2 sound cards, a sound card and a skype phone or something like this. JAWS can be a bit odd sometimes about which device it actually defaults to using and there is an FAQ with the solution to this which I will add below as finding the thing on the website can be a bit of a pain. If this is not the problem then of course ignore what is below. In the original faq it talks about installing an updated version of e'loquence. This is not required for most users now so I have got rid of reference to it in the information below. Regards Graham Bulletin Type: FAQ Date Posted: 04/04/2003 Product Name: JAWS Version: 4.51 Category: Synthesizer Question: I have two sound cards on my computer. How do I make sure JAWS uses the one I want? Answer: Many JAWS users who also use music or audio production software want JAWS and Eloquence to speak through one sound card, while using the other for their production work. To do this, you need to edit a file called JFW.ini. Editing the jfw.ini file: 1. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, browse your hard drive to the currently running version of JAWS and find the jfw.ini file in that folder. 2. Press ENTER to open. 3. You should find some lines that read: Synth1Name=eloq Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS Synth1Driver=eloq The number doesn't matter, it may be 1, 2, or 3, but it must be the same for all entries for Eloquence. 4. Add the following line after the driver line: Synth1Port=SB Live! Wave Device Of course, you need to make sure that the synth number matches the other lines, so that if the Driver line read: Sytn3Driver=eloq Then the port line would read: Synth3Port=SB Live! Wave Device The text after the = sign in the Port line comes from Control Panel/Sound & Multimedia/Audio tab It must be one of the entries that can be chosen for Preferred Playback device. 5. Save your changes and exit Notepad.----- Original Message ----- From: Amro Bilal

I have Jaws configured to start automatically when the computer starts. Jaws starts ok, but, with no speech. I have to unload Jaws and reload it for Jaws to talk. I tried this with Jaws 9 and older versions but the results are the same. Would anyone have an idea what might be bothering Jaws? Cheers, Amro No virus found in this incoming message.
