Why take the hits at all though? IF the new versions don't actually improve
access to mainstream applications, why not just find one that does the
basics (as they all have, more or less) and just stick at that? I can't
think of anything that's relly improved, as far as I know, and we all know
how far that isn't, but the only thing I find easier with 10 than with 5 is
access to PDFs. Other than that, I don't understand what's to gain.
Certainly don't want to miss out, though, and it's an ATW recommendation,
which is great.
Maybe should add that the same recommendation includes getting me some
proper JAWS training, which might also make a difference... I've always just
muddled along with it, out of the box, so maybe if I knew how to work it I
might understand what the upgrades actually do.
All education most welcome.
Thanks guys.

Essentially, what you need to decide is whether you want to take the small
hits or a big hit when you eventually come to upgrade. Now that I am
controlling my JAWS updates rather than have to get the company I was
working for to purchase them, I have decided it is worth taking the smaller
hits afforded by a software maintenance agreement. For reasons best known to

themselves, the company I worked for would not agree to an SMA.

Amie,

An SMA means that you agree to purchase the next three upgrades but the cost
is less than if you purchased them separately. However, if you have an old
version of Jaws, you have to pay for any upgrades you missed, but you would
still have to do that without an SMA. You cannot go from version 10 to
version 12, you have to pay for 11 and then 12.

It is nothing to do with defragmenting or disc clean up.

Is it worth upgrading? That is debateable. I personally don't use all the
new things Jaws can do, but there is usually at least one new aspect that is
good to have.

Hope this is of help.

David

And this would help, would it? What can be done, other than regular
defragging, which I do anyway?
More thanks; you remain my hero.

SMA is software maintenance agreement.

Oh, Ian, now you're going to have to remind me what an SMA is. Sorry.

The last Freedom Scientific podcast said the betas would probably not be
available until September. I think you should try and argue for ATW to pay
for an SMA.

Oh ok, thanks. What's the usual timescale for release, following prelaunch
promo? I guess, and hope that, once ATW agree to fund it,I can wait a
little while, to see if it's working.
Any off-the-record reports yet?
Thanks for the post.

It may be being shown at exhibitions, but it's not officially released
yet.

Hi list
I've just had an Access To Work assessment in which it was suggested
that I should upgrade to the current version, now being 13, I gather.
I still feel like i haven't had 10 for 5 minutes. Don't want to be a
stick in the mud, but am slightly nervous of yet more changes.

Wonder, what do you all make of 13? How is it working? What's it
like?

Thanks for any tips.

Amie
