Agreed.. Using 3rd Party import into Allegro will pass any net level
Allegro property as long as setup your Allegro.cfg specifies that they
are exported. This works for Component and Pin properties as well.
We did this all the time and have been for some time now.

This only gets ugly if you have XNETs defined in your design and the
netlist applies properties to one net of the XNET which will propagates
thru the XNET.

Back Annotation to DxDesigner works as well with the key being that
the schematic must not be touched at all because any small change
to the schematic will cause back annotation to fail.

No, not right. Allegro can import any type of attribute/property to
Allegro from DxDesigner. We do it all the time, including ones we make up.
The cfg file needs to be set up correctly to do this.

Some users have developed their own cross probing tools, but they are also
reluctant to share it freely due to the fact it will give competitive
companies a significant productivity increase. You can't give everything
out for free - that's life.

Cheers,
Richard

This issue is not DxDesigner issue. The issue is Cadence's "third party
netlist in" it will only pass certain attributes to Allegro. The spec.
Section 7 of the Allegro users Guide hasn't changed as long as I've been
using Allegro. The only way around the cross probing that I know is a
product from OHIO Design Automation.

For those of you interested, here are the questions I asked Mentor, and
the
answers they gave me:

Q: Is there a datasheet available for the DxDesigner to Allegro
interface?

A: No, we do not have a datasheet for this option.

Could you please get these questions answered about this interface as
well:

1) Does it support crossprobing

A: No.

2) Does it support decal preview

A: No.

3) Can you use the DxDesigner Attributes Manager for entering/modifying
constraints

A: Yes.

4) What attributes does it pass to Allegro

A: We don't have a list of the constraints/attributes. However, we
have
many customers using DxDesigner very successfully with Allegro.

Keep in mind, they charge $2500 for this, and it appears it does little
more
than produce a netlist. Something that can be done by converting the
PADS
output...

Regards,

Austin
