Richard

Thanks

I'm use to looking at these files we just haven't a lot of luck in the
past passing the attributes we wanted. Basically net properties!

Sure. It's not easy to follow, though.

The cfg files are like those 3D patterns where you can't see the image.
Then all of a sudden, it's "GOT IT!"

Points to look for are attributes attached to a component and attributes
attached to a component-definition. (There is a difference.)

eg:

- a 'NOFIT' attribute is attached to a Comp as a string. This is for
individual refdes's, eg C1950 may have this property.

- a 'PART_NUMBER' attribute is attached to a Comp Def as a string. This
is for devices, eg CAP10N_0402_10P may have this property.

I've attached a png to show what you get in Allegro.

Cheers,

Richard

Richard

Do you have a copy of the CFG File you can Share? We have had problems
in the past with this.

No, not right. Allegro can import any type of attribute/property to
Allegro from DxDesigner. We do it all the time, including ones we make
up. The cfg file needs to be set up correctly to do this.

Some users have developed their own cross probing tools, but they are
also reluctant to share it freely due to the fact it will give
competitive companies a significant productivity increase. You can't
give everything out for free - that's life.

Cheers,

Richard

This issue is not DxDesigner issue. The issue is Cadence's "third party
netlist in" it will only pass certain attributes to Allegro. The spec.
Section 7 of the Allegro users Guide hasn't changed as long as I've been
using Allegro. The only way around the cross probing that I know is a
product from OHIO Design Automation.

For those of you interested, here are the questions I asked Mentor, and
the
answers they gave me:

Q: Is there a datasheet available for the DxDesigner to Allegro
interface?

A: No, we do not have a datasheet for this option.

Could you please get these questions answered about this interface as
well:

1) Does it support crossprobing

A: No.

2) Does it support decal preview

A: No.

3) Can you use the DxDesigner Attributes Manager for entering/modifying
constraints

A: Yes.

4) What attributes does it pass to Allegro

A: We don't have a list of the constraints/attributes. However, we
have
many customers using DxDesigner very successfully with Allegro.

Keep in mind, they charge $2500 for this, and it appears it does little
more
than produce a netlist. Something that can be done by converting the
PADS
output...

Regards,

Austin
