Hi Kinney,
I apologize for taking  - again - such a long time to respond.
I think the problem is syncing is performed in gPodder 3 via the 'Extras' menu,
not by right-clicking on a file.
If you click on the 'Extras' Menu at the top, you will see 'Sync to device'.
Clicking this option will kick off the sync for all podcasts you're subscribed
too.
I added a screengrab to the User Manual to make it clearer:
http://wiki.gpodder.org/wiki/User_Manual#Synchronising_podcasts_to_MP3_players

It's not currently possible in gPodder to sync an individual episode - it's an
'all or nothing' approach at the moment.
Hopefully this should be enough to get you off gPodder 2 and onto gPodder 3!
Joseph

Thank you for your diligence, Joseph.
1) Yes.  It's mounted correctly.  I'm running Arch and Space-FM, my
filemanager, mounts all usb drives automatically.
2) I can copy files to the PODCAST folder on my Sansa Clip Zip manually through
SpaceFM with no problem.
3) I have carefully copied the path to my PODCAST folder several times to make
sure I have it right.  Thinking that taking the path all the way to the PODCAST
folder might be too much and perhaps only the path directly to the device was
all that was sufficient, I tried that.  Still no joy.
4) Gpodder3 present me with only the one option of copy files to a "Folder"
when I right-click on a file.  It doesn't present me with the extra "Device"
option that Gpodder2 does.  When I use the folder option, Gpodder3 indeed
copies the file to the folder I have navigated to on the device.  This, of
course, is cumbersome because I have to change folders for each podcast, a
feature that is important for RockBox since it basically depends on the
traditional folder/file architecture for displaying the podcasts you want to
hear.
5) All this is handled beautifully with the same settings and setup when I use
Gpodder2 which I once again have gone back to and which works beautifully.
There's apparently something unique about the Clip Zip hardware that is causing
Gpodder3 to fail.
I'm a little surprised that I appear to be the only user out here running
Rockbox on a Clip Zip who's trying to get gPodder3 to work.  But maybe I am!!
I've probably tried this close to 10 or 12 times now on 4 different machines
and have never gotten it to work.
Sadly, gPodder2 is orphaned in the AUR and I'm afraid I'll soon be left in the
dark altogether.
Perhaps it's time to file a bug report?

Thanks again for your help, Joseph.

| Kinney,Sorry to hear you're still having problems! Regarding device sync,
gpodder only gets involved once the device has been recognised by your
computer. You have to mount (in Linux terms) or connect the device to your
computer and do whatever is necessary so that your computer can copy files to
it. With Android devices, for example, that involves mounting via go-mtpfs, and
for Apple it uses gtkpod. It's a bit of a cheat but given that there are so
many different devices, it makes more sense for the user to figure out how to
mount their own device rather than have lots of complicated logic for gPodder
to try to guess. So the first question is - can you copy files to and from the
Clip via the file manager or command line? If you can't, you'll need to be able
to do this before gPodder will work. If you can, then you should check that the
path to the device as specified in gPodder settings is correct. If you're still
having trouble having confirmed those two then let me know! Thanks,Joseph

| Sorry I let this thread drop but I'm back here again to make the claim, that:
gPodder3 does not recognize the Sansa Clip Zip!!
I finally found my wife's "virgin" Clip Zip, still with the original software
on it and gPodder3 does not see it either.  So it doesn't appear to be a
Rockbox problem after all.
I might also add that since my last post, my original laptop, a Dell D620,
died.  I'm now working on a Dell D830 running XFCE4 in Arch Linux.  And the
same refusal to recognize the Clip Zip persists.
Please, someone prove me wrong!  gPodder is simply the best pod catcher I've
ever used.

Sigh....

Kinney,
Let me know if you have any success. I used to have a Sansa Clip and I'm pretty
sure I tested sync with it when I was working on it, so it should work with
that!

Kinney,

Can you mount your Clip Zip and copy files to it manually?
Yes.  I have no problems doing that.

How are you mounting it? (I'm using sync with an Android device so I mount
via go-mtp). What's your mount point?

I currently have the mount point defined in /etc/fstab as "/mnt/clipzip"
and that's where the device mounts automatically now when I plug it into
the computer.  I define the device in /etc/fstab using its UUID.

Having said that, I have also tried mounting it manually with "mount
/dev/sdb /mnt/clipzip", for ex., but the results are the same.

For better or worse, the sync function depends on the device being mounted
and accessible via a mount point. I think it's a little too much for gPodder
to be able to determine what device is plugged in and figure how best to
mount it, so it relies on the user having mounted it successfully and be able
to copy files to it.

Having said that, to check that gPodder is working correctly, you could try
selecting 'Device' and then browsing to a folder on your hard drive, and then
try 'syncing' to that location - gPodder will copy your podcasts to that
folder. (There's nothing special about the folder that gPodder syncs to, it's
just a folder as far as gPodder is concerned.) That way we can figure out if
it's a Clip Zip issue or a more general settings problems.

Let me know if this helps.
I'll check this out when I get home tonight.

Again, thanks for your patience and persistence.

My wife has a Sansa Clip, not a Clip Zip.  I think I'll try connecting
it tonight and see how it goes with that device.  I'm beginning to think
my problems have to do with the particular model I'm using.

Cheers!
