Well, I think that time should be a signed 64 bit int, so you can
represent negative offsets and such. The extra 1 bit of range doesn't
add too much.
If we always have the plugins call a function to get the quanta, even
if it is always audio samples in the current version, then we should nat
have a problem redefining this later.

Any reason we cant have a 64 bit unsigned int for the sample pos, and a seperate field for sub sample acurate positioning which people can use or ignore as they see fit and it doesnt add any extra overhead for plugs that dont need it? And it shouldnt break older plugs when or if sub sample acurate is added latter, if we change the ABSTIME to a fixed point integer latter on it might cause problems?

Oh my, Tim agreed with me on a time representation issue... :)sample-accurate

that an arbitrary subsample definition, like 60.4 in samples, provides none of the benefits I am looking for and just adds complexity.
I agree with that. I think my position right now is to stay
ownfor now, and add a host defined subsamples_per_sample variable later, if needed.
