OK, so we *seem* to all agree that we DO need to handle non-FPU platforms,
but that we should hold off on defining it until later, when the main spec is
more defined. Is that correct? Shall I make that the requirement?
As for supporting multiple IO datatypes, it's actually OT for 3.8, but since
we're close to the end...shall we bring it to a vote? Last arguments? What
next?
