The issue has been brought up of profiles, and that is what the topic is. The more I think of it, the less I want to deal with it. A 'profile' is essentially a variation on the specification. At present we can identify TWO or at most THREE profiles (float, int, maybe double). I say that for issue 1 we decide to support ONE type (float) or we decide to support a short list of types and provide an API for converting between them. I say that for issue 2 we punt.
